A Note from Pastor Nate Davis, Jr.

Consecration means to set apart, dedicate or devote to the service or worship of God. As a church we will dedicate to God a number of days with fasting and praying. Jesus implied that all of his followers should fast (Matthew 6:16-18; 9:14-15). Fasting is the deliberate abstinence of physical gratification for a greater spiritual goal. There are two basic types of fasts: total (water only) and partial (abstaining from specific items). Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights, and though we are to be like Him, this consecration is 21 days and nights of partial fasting. Remember the power in the fast is not about what you eat or don’t eat.  It is in consecrating your body, soul, and spirit unto the Lord. A fast should never put the body in harm. If you are on medication, under a physician’s care, pregnant, or if you work a job that is very physical, please consult your primary care physician before committing to participate. It does not mean that you cannot participate. Please read on for suggestions of additional ways to partially fast.

In addition, and most importantly, I want you to not only fast but make time to read God’s word and pray. We hope that you will join us for prayer weekday mornings and evenings via Zoom. Our prayer schedule and details are included with this information and on our website and social media pages. As your Pastor, I have a responsibility for your spiritual growth and to challenge you to be the best you can be. If you are a Now Church member, we want you to be determined to be in the flow of what the Lord is saying to us together. Let’s keep first things first and take this sacred time seriously as we look forward to what God has in store for us collectively and individually.

Much love,

Pastor Nate Davis, Jr.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

  • Limit your activity. It is advised that you refrain from intense exercise while total fasting or partial fasting with only liquids.

  • The first two or three days are usually the hardest. Prepare yourself for temporary physical and mental discomfort. Aside from hunger pains, withdrawal from sugar and caffeine may cause headaches. You may also feel tired or cranky.

  • As you continue to fast, you will likely experience a sense of well-being both physically and spiritually. However, should you feel hunger pains, increase your water intake.

We will be praying, communicating with God, on a consistent basis. We trust that as you are denying your flesh, your spirit man is better able to hear from the Lord. There is no time like the present to focus on what the Lord is saying to you concerning your future. Join Pastor Nate and other Now Church leaders during our daily prayer time via Zoom.
